I have noticed that most patients who do not participate in their healing process generally do not get better. For those patients who chose not to change their life style despite the fact that they are contributing to their health issues, I jokingly say to them “Your pain is my gain!” It may not be entirely a joke if they keep coming to see me without changing their life style. A patient’s participation is needed to fly through the turbulence of his or her health.
